Protan Slip-Resistant PVC
TRITON manufactures and supplies stronger, safer roof systems for industrial and institutional facilities. With 70 years of production and installation on over 1 billion square feet, the safest thermoplastic roof membrane is available through a partnership between Triton Inc. and Protan A/S.
Roof-top slip-resistance has been overlooked in our industry, leading to an increase in occupational injuries and falls when roofs are wet. New research from Iowa State University recommends textured thermoplastics as the minimum for human safety on commercial and industrial flat roofs.

Slip-Resistant
TRITON’S PROTAN PVC single-ply membranes are manufactured with a higher Coefficient of Friction than traditional PVC and TPO membranes. This results in a safer roof surface during installation and after, when the roof or roof-top equipment is being serviced by various trades. Triton’s Protan PVC membranes are a superior option for safety-minded clients who an industrial-grade, chemical-resistant thermoplastic with a safe surface. Our standard roll width is 7 ft., for safer maneuvering and less risk of injury.
TRITON PVC membranes are available in various colors, thicknesses, and formats. Our membranes may be mechanically-attached, fully-adhered, induction-welded, or wind-vented (vacuum). These membranes are backed by a proven, documented 30+ year lifespan. PVC membranes provide a flexible, durable, and lightweight option when replacing an existing roof, constructing a new building, or reskinning an existing roof.

Case Study
It is difficult to avoid a full tear-off and replacement with existing ballasted EPDM roofs because the existing membrane and insulation are loose-laid, only being held down by the stone ballast. Traditionally, when these roofs are past their useful life, they are completely torn off and replaced, as restoration and recover options are usually not feasible. On this Truist bank branch, Triton provided a hybrid alternative which allowed the bank to avoid the waste and cost of replacing good, dry insulation, but receive a new slip-resistant thermoplastic membrane without adding fasteners or using ballast.

University Study
In a 2024 Iowa State University (ISU) study, researchers found that material type had a more substantial effect on participant performance than the type of shoe the participant wore. Notably, textured thermoplastics significantly outperformed smooth thermoplastics by significant margins.
The survey concludes that “higher friction, as provided by textured thermoplastics, leads to lower slip-and-fall events and increases participant trust in the surfaces, potentially decreasing workers’ compensation claims from walking on commercial and industrial rooftops.”
