Challenge:
A chemical plant in South Carolina raised safety concerns about the sloped roof on their R&D warehouse. The existing system, built with 2″ gypsum over ¾” plywood, had reached the end of its service life, making a full tear-off and replacement necessary.
Solution:
Rather than installing a standard smooth TPO membrane, the plant opted for a safer alternative: a slip-resistant, textured TPO. Allnext’s team selected Triton’s DuraGrip® 60 mil Textured TPO, installed with an induction-welded, mechanically fastened system to ensure long-term durability and performance.
Why DuraGrip?
Recent research from Iowa State University highlights the importance of textured thermoplastics for rooftop safety. In a 10-month study evaluating nine common commercial and industrial roofing materials, silicone, smooth TPO, and smooth PVC ranked among the worst for safety, while textured thermoplastics were recommended as the “minimum for safety”.
Result:
The upgraded roof provides a secure, slip-resistant surface that protects workers while delivering long-term performance, while reinforcing safety as a standard, not an option, in industrial roofing.
